Crocodiles

Fat Possum's efforts to diversify beyond their largely blues-based roster of artists has lead the label into the realm of noisy pop with recent additions Wavves and Crocodiles. I recently posted about Wavves, and after checking out (thanks Stereogum) Crocodiles, I gotta say Fat Possum is 2 for 2.

Crocodiles is composed of ex-members of The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower and Some Girls (wow...really??? That still blows my mind). Where other bands lumped into the noise-pop revival tend to conjure memories of Psychocandy-era Jesus and Mary Chain, Crocodiles' buzzing, swaggering take on the genre reminds me more of the Velvets. When you throw in songwriting chops that are a cut above their peers, you've got the recipe for a band that will surely be making noise by year's end. Their full-length LP, Summer of Hate, is due out in May, but in the meantime check out the band's Myspace page to check out some tunes and purchase the excellent "Neon Jesus" 7". Oh, and their blog is pretty awesome to boot.
