Of the entire electronic disco revival that has occurred, my personal favorites of the scene would have to be Portland's Glass Candy. A couple of weeks ago I picked up Deep Gems: Singles, B-Sides and Rarities. The album pretty much lives up to the title, as many tracks are just sparser versions or different mixes of previously released Glass Candy tunes. However, there are in fact a few true "deep gems" on the album, and "Geto Boys" is one of them. I'm not sure if "cover" is the right word to describe the song, as it doesn't share the same lyrics with Geto Boys' classic "My Mind is Playin' Tricks on Me," but it does share the same Isaac Hayes "Hung Up on My Baby" sample and the title of the Glass Candy version at least hints at some sort of winking acknowledgment. Anyway, it's a pretty enjoyable little jam and they sum it up best at the end of the song..."For a good time, call Glaaaaass Candy!""Geto Boys"
