The Velvet Underground - "VU"

If you're reading this blog, then chances are you already know that I named this blog for a Velvet Underground song. They may be the most influential band towards any and every sort of alternative music (punk and otherwise) from 1967 on. I don't feel like I need to describe their sound, because if you haven't heard anything from the Velvet Underground, STOP READING THIS IMMEDIATELY. Then go out, and buy all four of their studio albums, The Velvet Underground & Nico, White Light/White Heat, The Velvet Underground, and Loaded. They're absolutely essential listening/worshipping.

These songs are from the "lost album," VU. Although Nico and John Cale were long gone by the time these songs were being created, there are still some absolute gems on this album and it's still The Velvet Underground. These two songs showcase the pop sensibilities of the group, which in my opinion was just as cool as their avant-garde leanings...think of the duality of the Jesus and Mary Chain, but almost 20 years earlier. I especially love "Temptation Inside Your Heart," as it makes it seem as though songwriting just came so effortlessly to Lou Reed and Co.

"Although Nico and John Cale were long gone by the time these songs were being created..." Nico, yes -- Cale, no. He plays on TIYH.

Oh damn, thanks a lot for the correction dude. I thought Cale left after White Light/White Heat?
