The Adolescents

Posted by Hello

I've been re-visiting a lot of the 80s hardcore-punk bands lately, and out of the whole bratty, pissed off, I-hate-everything type bands the Adolescents are my personal favorite. I don't really have a concrete reason why, perhaps they sound a little more pissed off and bratty than the others, maybe because they were one of the earliest bands to adopt this particular style of punk rock (1981), maybe because they sound like they can play guitar...who knows. Whatever the reason, they're definitely worth checking out. All of these tracks are of their self-titled debut album, the standout track being "Kids of the Black Hole", it's like the "A Day in the Life" of hardcore punk! "No Way" has the whole westcoast chant along thing going for it (aaaahhhhhh-ahhhh-aaahh-aaahh-aah...yeah you get it) and "I Hate Children" is just all around snotty punk awesomeness. If any of their songs sound familiar it's because 67.84% of hardcore-punk influenced bands have covered at least one Adolescent song...check out Mudhoney's cover of "Who is Who"...because you did go and buy March to Fuzz didn't you?
