"1970"

I Feel Alright Posted by Hello

The Stooges -"1970." My favorite track, from one of my favorite albums, from one of my favorite bands. I love this song so much that I've decided it needs it's own post. Featured on The Stooges 2nd album, Funhouse, this song summed up everything that was great about The Stooges. Simple but fierce groove, not-quite-tamed guitars, simple but effective drumming, Iggy Pop howling at his finest, and the feeling that the song just descends into chaos as it draws toward its end, with Steven Mackay providing the saxophone that only adds to the madness. The Stooges performance of this song is easily the top, but I also have heard two great covers of the song that bring out two different aspects of the song. The Icarus Line's cover (also availible from their website) does a great job of emphasizing the chaos that was The Stooges, while The Damned's cover, "I Feel Alright" (from their 1977 debut Damned Damned Damned) uses gang vocals to highlight all the energy that made this song a classic. Check it out for yourself.

I've never really been a huge fan of the Stooges or the Icarus Line but that cover is sweet.
